Andaman ( Port Blair and Havelock )

Bangalore to Andaman

Plan: 5 nights and 6 days

To and Fro Andaman: We booked flights.

Bangalore -> Chennai -> PortBlair 13th. Reached Portblair at 11 35 AM. SpiceJet.
Port Blair -> Chennai -> Bangalore. Left PortBlair at 12 10 PM. SpiceJet.

Stay:

@Port blair  - Stayed in a Govt guest house for 3 + 1 days. Reserved through a contact. Guest house manager will arrange your stay, pick-up, sightseeing etc.. He will also prepare a itinerary that will cover most of the tourist attractions if you are not prepared. He would charge you a nominal cost for his services (It was around 4k for us). The cost of the cab he arranges is on Par with the usual cost(may be a little less). Cabs are costly in Andaman and I would recommend you to avoid it, if you are sight seeing inside the city.

Food is absolutely homely and worth the price you pay here. We ate all the 3 days here and it was good.

@Havelock Island

One of the most beautiful resorts in Havelock, the beautiful island of Andaman. You should not miss visiting this island, if you did, please go back to Andaman and stay only at havelock. Pristine beaches and world class resorts.

Getting reservation at Dolphin is almost near to impossible, you should plan 4 months before to get reservation here. We did not have issues getting accomadation here because Guest house manager at Port blair, managed to put us in by calling people.

Sight-seeing

Day 1

Airport to room. Checked-in. Refreshed and had lunch. Planned ferry to havelock and reserved.

Visited Corbyn's cove, cellular jail, sound and light show at cellular jail, walked around the beautiful park opposite to the guest house.

Day 2

Anthropological Museum, chattham island, Jolly bouy island, wandoor beach.

Day 3

Baratung Island -- takes the whole day. Long drive but enjoyable. Saw some native tribes on the way. Travelled in ferry's between islands.  Better avoid this and do some relaxing on the beach at Neil or Havelock.

Day 4

Early morning jetty to Havelock, Nice experience if you have not had a sea cruise experience before. Booked a Govt ferry - costed ~300 rs per head. Took 2 hrs 30 mins via Neil Island.

Havelock is majestic. Visited Radha nagar beach.. I could spend all my 5 days here.. Pristine beach.. like in the movies... It was just amazing.

The place we stayed (Dolphin resort) was a govt accomadation, cheap and good, right on the beach. Food at Dolphin was good. If you want this quality of resort from a private resort  at havelock, be prepared to shell out 4000 - 8000 rs per day.

Day 5

After morning beach visit, left to port blair agian in the ferry in the morning. We really planned the visit to havelock and neil badly. We wish to go back just to havelock and neil for 5 days, need to plan it out.

After reaching port blair, we visited Chidiyatapu. Its has a nice sunset view point. Beach is not comparable to the ones in Havelock, but was OK.

Day 6

Shopping at port blair and left to airport.

Cost

The trip costed us around 30,000 for 2 people, (includes stay, food, transport and ferry charges in Andaman -- does not include water sports ---- does not include the flight charges.)

Food - Approx 300 rs per meal pax (includes basic sea food and chicken)
Transport - Approx 500 rs / 10 Km
Stay -  Avg - 1500 per night.

--- Not included ---

Scuba diving- 4500 per pax. We did not enjoy scuba unfortunately, we would like to experience it next time when we get a change.
Biking - etc.. Avg 300-500 rs per ride pax

[[NOTE: If you are serious about relaxing at the beaches, just spend 1 day at port blair and travel to neil and havelock for the rest of the days]]

Safety

From what I experienced, Andaman is very safe. We walked around in the night. When we went to beaches, we always left our bags on the shores. Nobody touches it.

Keep yourself hydrated. Andaman is hot and humid, most of the year. Drink a lot of tender coconut, you get them in plenty for 20-30 rs. Its not cheap :P.
